It's cold out. Like seriously freezing. Current real temperature is -24 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind chill is -53. Stay warm, my friends!
In the midst of this polar vortex, the wheels in my brain have been turning. I recently stumbled upon an artist who creates some really amazing images. Hmm... So, I'm thinking, what if I wrote short stories inspired by these images? Wait! What if I invited others to join me? It will be so much fun! I'll send them an image they will use to get the creative juices flowing. I'll give them rules! But only two.
One: The story has to be 5000 words or less.
Two: The story must be dark or odd in tone. (This does not mean it can't end in a happily ever after.)
Yes! I love this idea. I'm running with it. And that, my fellow dark souls, is how Macabre Minis was birthed.
The first of the minis will be posted soon, so stay tuned! And if anyone is up to the challenge and wants to write one, shoot me a message and I'll send you an image.
*Disclaimer* Dudes, there is no money involved. This is all in the name of fun, creativity, and entertainment. The story remains your property to do with as you see fit. I only ask that you allow me to post it here. Okay? Great! Thanks!
I posted this on social media awhile back, but in light of the ignorant and hateful teenagers who harassed a Native American Vietnam Veteran, it bears repeating...
Daily, I am astonished by the amount of hatred in this world. I do not understand or embrace it in any capacity.
Daily, I am inspired by the small acts of kindness I see, the people who push back against the hatred and bigotry. This I get. This I embrace.
Imagine a world drenched in shades of grey. Imagine a world with no light for the day, no dark for the night. It is within the greens of the grasses, the blues of the sky, the reds and yellows and pinks and purples of the flowers that we find beauty and appreciation.
The same can and should be said about the people, all the people, who populate this world. If we were all the same, we'd be surrounded by mirrors, carbon copies in the same shade of grey. This is not a world I would ever choose to live in. But I guess there is use for the haters after all. Without them, the true gems of the world wouldn't shine quite so bright.
Let's face it, life gets messy.
Sometimes it's just plain effed up.
But not always, mind you. Sometimes life surprises you with its beauty.
We find it in the deepest pockets of our soul. Hang on to those moments. Squeeze them in your fists until your knuckles threaten to break through skin. You're gonna need those moments to get you through the rest of the mess!
Hang in there,
